Fireworks & Fountains at Longwood Gardens

My flight leaves from New Orleans back to DC in just a few hours.  I’ll go away with a lot of satisfaction and the distinct belief that New Orleans is an incredible, wonderful city.  I’m also utterly exhausted, though, from all the walking (in the heat too!), so at the same time, I’m glad to be going home.  But first things first…

Two weeks ago, my husband and I joined other DayTrippers (of the DC DayTrippers Meetup) for the July 24th Fireworks & Fountains program at Longwood Gardens.  Each year throughout the summer, Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania puts on 30-minute “Fireworks and Fountains” performances.  These magnificent  fireworks displays are set against a backdrop of illuminated fountains, both of which are choreographed to music, and are just a few of Longwood’s 400 annual musical and theatre performances, and other events.  We left around 12:00 pm – it’s a 2 1/2 hr drive up to Kennett Square – and spent the afternoon touring the magnificent gardens.  (I’ll post garden photos in a later blog post.)  It was incredibly hot and we dripped sweat all afternoon, but both the gardens and the fireworks and fountains were well worth it!  Here are a few of my favorite images from the night’s performance.  The first two images are composites; the rest are all single images!  You can also view ALL Longwood Gardens Fireworks & Fountains images here.  Enjoy!

And p.s., there are two more Fireworks & Fountains performances in 2010 on August 14th and September 5th.  See if you can make it – you’ll be glad!!!
