Bamboo Panels: New Mounting Option

Photograph mounted on Plywerk Bamboo Panel

Photograph mounted to Plywerk Bamboo Panel. Photo of the 2009 Gugak Festival in Virginia by John Jacks, one of my photography students.

In my last post, I mentionned that one of my photography students, John, brought a gift to me at his last lesson of one of his photographs of a dancer at the 2009 Gugak Festival of Korean arts.  He mounted the photograph on a bamboo panel, as the panels were one of his discoveries, and he wanted to show me what they look like.  Well, I was impressed by its elegance. An acid-free adhesive holds the photograph to the panel while also forming a barrier protecting the image from acidic elements found in all wood.  The panel is about 3/4 inch thick, and when you look at it from the side, you see attractive linear colorations of the bamboo.  I also like how in addition to being hung on the wall, the panel is thick enough to sit vertically on a bookshelf or mantel.  John also brought me a blank panel to mount one of my own photographs to.  Thanks, John!  I’ll be mounting one of my own photos to show you in the next week or so!

And with this experience, I’m going to be offering Bamboo Panels as a new mounting option for my photography clients, so be sure to ask me about it!  Bamboo panel mounting is available in sizes up to 30×45 and is a unique way to show off a beautiful photograph!
